Read 1 John Chapter 3

Key Verses: 1 John 3:4-10…

“Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in Him. Anyone who continues to live in Him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know Him or understand who He is.

Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.”

As you grow in your walk with the Lord, sin should become something that stands out in your mind with blaring obviousness, so you stay away from it. But sin can be tricky, especially if you are not guarding your heart and you allow a sinful spirit to turn your heart and mind towards that sinful behavior.

When you came to Christ, you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and He did just that, plus He wiped you clean leaving no residue behind. But if you continue living a sinful lifestyle even after you have given your life to the Lord, there may come a time when your salvation will come into question. If you are a child of God, are you willing to give up habits, attitudes or activities that you know are not pleasing to the Lord?

“Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them.”

Take time today, right now to ask the Lord what sin is still causing you to stumble. What habit or activity do you engage in that has people question your salvation? Ask the Lord to reveal any sinful attitude still etched in your heart that needs to chiseled away.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I do not want sin to take hold of any area of my life. Jesus, I come to You now with my heart, my mind, my entire soul wide open so You can step in and remove those things You do not find pleasing. Forgive me Lord for not fully giving to You those things that belong to the devil. I want my life to grow deeper into Your life. I want sin and it’s lure to become so obvious that I will turn from it immediately. Reveal those habits, attitudes and activities that need to be forever removed from my life. Fill those areas with You. Amen.
