Luke 1:35-38

35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and He will be called the Son of God. 36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the Word of God will never fail.”

38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.

The first thing I need to say is how incredibly in awe I am of Mary, what a fantastic example of faith we have in this young woman! Can any one of us say, truly, that we wouldn’t be a little more hesitant or scoff a little in disbelief? Mary is being told some extraordinary news! I’m sure she is overwhelmed, but, no matter, her response is, “Here I am Lord, use me.” This faithful response reminds me of Isaiah, the Lord was asking for someone to go and be a messenger to His people and Isaiah said, “Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)

With no further questioning, Mary stepped forward and accepted the Word of the Lord and received willingly the purpose God had for her life. When Mary said, “Yes,” Gabriel didn’t have to continue convincing her of anything! She knew the Lord was going to use her in a miraculous way, she believed, she accepted and that was it! At that moment Gabriel left. It was done. The Son of God would soon be here.

After being told she was going to birth the Son of God, Mary was also given the exciting news that her cousin Elizabeth had also conceived! Here Mary had just gotten this incredible, life altering news about her own life and now she is given more miraculous news about her cousin! My goodness, I think my heart would have just burst! The child Elizabeth was carrying would be the one who prepares the way for the Lord’s coming. John the Baptist, as he is called, would have a ministry of his own, but the sole purpose of his ministry would be to lead others to the Messiah.

So here we have Mary and Elizabeth, both are having miraculous births and both are having sons who will change the course of history forever.

Luke 1:37,

“For the Word of God will never fail.”

When God says He will do something, we need to have faith like Mary, like Elizabeth and know what He says will happen.

Verse 1:37 has special meaning to me, it is this verse that determined the name of my website – Godswordneverfails.com

I believe that when the Lord speaks, He will do what He says. The desire of my heart and the purpose of my website is that when people read the Bible that it doesn’t just go in one ear and out the other. But that God’s Word will take up residency in their hearts and minds. I pray for change to happen when God’s Word is being read.

As we read and study the Scriptures, when the Lord speaks and the Word of God is proclaimed it will never dissolve into nothingness, it will always produce the purpose it intended. In Isaiah 55:11 it says, (World English Bible)

11 “…So is My Word that goes out of My Mouth:
it will not return to Me void,
but it will accomplish that which I please,
and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do…”

God sent His angel Gabriel to give Mary some news that will forever change her life. What if God meant for this announcement to be shocking? I wonder sometimes, what if, God asks us to do something and it isn’t much of a challenge, would we just brush it off like it was nothing? Maybe, like Mary, we need to be completely overwhelmed by an angel sent from Heaven to give us a purpose that can only be done with the Word of God standing behind it.

Mary – A virgin giving birth to a child.

Elizabeth – An elderly woman conceiving a child.

Both miracles only the Almighty God could do.

Our faith in the Lord needs to include the impossible!! Do we pray for the impossible? Do we step forward and say, “Here I am Lord, use me.”

Let’s all have faith like Mary and say, “I am Your servant Lord. May everything You have said about me come true.”

~AMEN~
