Jeremiah 33:2-3

(NLT) “This is what the LORD says – the LORD who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the LORD: Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.”

(NKJV) verse 33:3 – “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

(MSG) verse 33:3 – “Call to Me, I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.”

During a great time of turmoil for Jerusalem, Jeremiah is given a message from the LORD, even though the people of Israel must suffer for a while longer because of their disobedience and rebellion, God would turn everything around and bring back peace and prosperity. In our verses for today God is reminding Jeremiah who He is. Verse 33:2,

“This is what the LORD says – the LORD who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the LORD…”

Jeremiah was worried for Jerusalem, so verse 33:2 reminds him that God is the One who made, formed, and established the earth, He has everything under His control, He knows what He is doing. What does God tell Jeremiah to do? Verse 33:3, “Call to Me…”

I’m going to combine the three different versions of verse 3 that are written out above to get a full sense of what God is telling not only Jeremiah but to us as well…

“…Call to Me, ask Me, and I will answer you…I will tell you remarkable secrets, I’ll show you great and mighty things, marvelous and wondrous things that you don’t know and could never figure out on your own…”

There will always be things that happen in our lives that we just don’t understand what’s going on, why things are happening the way they are. Jeremiah was searching for answers too. He was distraught over what he was seeing his people going through. If we seek the Lord in confusing situations, He will always point us to the Scriptures to remind us of Who He Is! In verse 33:2 God wants us to refamiliarize ourselves with Genesis chapter 1.

Genesis 1:1-3a,

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said… ‘Let there be…’”

When God says, “Let there be…” Whatever it is we are asking Him to show us, it is going to happen just as He says. When we apply the faith and trust we have that God is Who He says He is, then we have an unlimited resource of guidance, for everything we find in our path that makes us stumble, God is the One Who will show us remarkable things. It could be we are taking our eyes off the One who created everything and knows exactly what you are distraught over. God is replying to your pleas, “Call to Me…Ask Me…” Do you have the courage and the confidence to call on the LORD and ask Him to show you great and mighty things? Or is it more comfortable to go through life without knowing some of the secrets of God. For me? I’m calling, I’m asking!!! I want to know the things of the LORD! I don’t want to go through difficult situations without the LORD right by my side leading me through each step.

Jeremiah couldn’t see an end to the destruction and oppression for the people of Israel, and I believe he did call out to God and asked Him what was going on, what was going to happen to his people. The LORD was faithful to answer Jeremiah’s call and told him, in time, everything would work out and the people of Israel would soon have peace again. When we hear the voice of the LORD, deep within our spirit, we need to hold on to the truth of His Word. We need to know that what He says will indeed happen. When Jeremiah was crying out to the LORD, he was in prison! He couldn’t be there to help his people, he had to fully trust in the words spoken by the LORD.

Do you trust fully that God has your situation in the palm of His hand and knows exactly what the outcome will be? Ask God for peace in every tough situation. Ask God for clarity in the moment. You may not be able to see the future, but God can reassure you that He is in control.

“Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets…”

Wouldn’t you love to know what some of God’s secrets are? I know I do! Let’s not be afraid to ask! Ask God to reveal “great and mighty things, marvelous and wondrous things.”

Let’s not be people who won’t listen to the word of the LORD. Instead let’s lean in, anticipate His voice, wait for His answer.

Almighty God, THANK YOU for hearing my call! Thank you for answering my plea for help. Thank you for revealing remarkable secrets when I ask. Thank you, Father in Heaven, for creating this beautiful earth and everything in it as a reminder of Who You Are!!

~AMEN~
