***Means you are to have an affection based on admiration, enthusiasm, passion and devotion***
Read Proverbs 3
Key Verses: Proverbs 3:11-12…
11 “My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t be upset when He corrects you.
12 For the Lord corrects those He loves,
just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.”
LOVE is expressed in many different ways. One of the ways the Lord shows you His LOVE is by disciplining you when you disobey His commands. No parent likes to discipline their children, but in order to get them back on a corrected path sometimes it is necessary.
The more you trust in the Lord and allow Him to guide your steps the less often He will need to discipline you. Proverbs 3:5-6 says…5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek His Will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” You show the Lord your LOVE for Him by your trust in Him and by seeking Him first in everything.
In what areas of your life do you find the Lord disciplining you the most often? Are there things you do on a regular basis that do not bring glory and honor to the Lord? In verse one of Proverbs chapter 3 it says, “My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart.” The more you know Scripture and know what the Lord says, the more you will obey the commands of your Savior. If you are going to ignore the warnings and keep on doing what you know you shouldn’t… well, then it should be expected that you will need discipline in the areas you do not want to adhere to.
If the Lord God did not LOVE you so much, He wouldn’t take the time to discipline His you as His child. But if He didn’t step in and guide you to that corrected path, it wouldn’t help you grow and mature and set good, moral standards to measure your life.
If any child is allowed to continue in blatant disobedience, there must come a point of correction, otherwise that child could continue on a path towards destruction and pain. Any parent who loves their child does not want to see them go off on a tangent that could lead to sudden disaster.
So, the next time you feel the Father’s discipline in your life, you may want to pay attention to what misbehavior He is trying to steer you away from, He’s doing that because of His great LOVE for you.
Prayer:
Father, I know some of my behaviors are not pleasing to you. I know you need to discipline me when I don’t want to obey Your commands. Help me Lord to see my error quickly so I can be placed back on Your path, the path towards Your Will for my life. Amen.
