Psalm 1

Psalm 1

Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
    or stand around with sinners,
    or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
    bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.
For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

There is nothing better than waking up to a beautiful morning than to open the Book of Psalms and soak in what the Lord wants to say.

In Psalm Chapter One we have some wonderful instructions to live a godly life…

  • Do not follow the advice of the wicked
  • Do not join in with sinners and mockers
  • Delight in the Word of the Lord
  • Meditate on the Word day and night
  • Bear good fruit by being planted near living water
  • Do not be like the wicked who face judgement
  • The godly have a path that leads to the Lord

Today’s message is a simple one.

It is important to be in your Bibles, the Bible tells us in several places to meditate on it day and night.

Here are just a couple of examples:

Joshua 1:8… 8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Psalm 119:11 and 15… 11I have hidden Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. 15 I will study Your commandments and reflect on Your ways.”

Deuteronomy 6:5-9… “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

It’s important for us, as believers, to be in our Bibles. The Word of God is our instruction manual. It is what guides us to living a godly life. It shows us who God the Father is and it reveals the truth about Jesus Christ and how we can have a personal relationship with Him.

Maybe this year besides reading your Bible every day, you can commit to memorizing a few verses. Know where those verses are in the Bible and be able to quote them verbatim. That’s what it means to have the Word of God hidden in your heart.

God bless you all as you go about your day. Be mindful of who you are in Christ and have a great day!
