Psalm 145:13-18
“For Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations.
The LORD always keeps His promises; He is gracious in all He does.
The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.
The eyes of all look to You in hope; You give them food as they need it.
When You open Your hand, You satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
The LORD is righteous in everything He does; He is filled with kindness.
The LORD is close to all who call on Him; yes, to all who call on Him in truth.”
One thing we should always remember is just how much our LORD God loves us. When a passage like the one here in Psalm 145 gives hints to the character of the LORD, our Father in Heaven, we should pay attention.
- His Kingdom rules forever
- The LORD keeps His promises
- He is gracious
- The LORD helps
- He gives hope
- He satisfies need
- The LORD is righteous
- He is filled with kindness
- The LORD is close
Whatever our day is filled with, good or bad, God remains the same. His character will never change, it is something we can cling to and know He will always be there for us no matter what. Have you ever thought that doing “life” on your own is working out just fine, that you don’t need to have a God to look after you? Let’s keep in mind, the world and all of its pleasures does not want what’s best for you. There are traps, entanglements, and broken promises at every turn. The love the world gives is conditional, the care and help the world provides is contingent upon you compromising your mental health. An everlasting hope cannot be found in a world that is forever changing its mind as to what is acceptable. The world has superficial righteousness, its kindness can be a mask for underlying wickedness and sin. So, beware of the world’s “closeness,” just because you can see, feel, and touch the things of this world, doesn’t mean it’s all good and you have nothing to be wary about. God’s promises are true and worthy of our attention.
When I speak of “the world,” you may be asking yourself what I mean by that. I’m not talking about the earth and all the wonderful things we see in creation. The “world” is anything and everything that opposes the Word of God. Right now, the ruler of the “world” is Satan. His mission is to give us a false sense of hope and freedom by making his evil nature look like something good and tempting. The “world” may be his kingdom for now, but there will come a time when this world and everything in it will come to an end and Satan’s reign, his kingdom will be destroyed. As a believer in Jesus Christ, when you become a child of God, you won’t be a part of that “world” any longer. Your focus will be changed! Now you have God’s forever Kingdom to look forward to, you have God’s promises to cling to and you have hope, real hope knowing the truth has set you free of this world. 1 John 5:18-20 says,
“We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life.”
It’s a choice to live for Christ in a world set for destruction or to continue to live a life in a world whose only goal is to draw you as far from the LORD as you will allow it. I am thankful for and confident in the Word of God. I choose to follow the instructions in the Bible with my whole heart, in doing so, it doesn’t leave much room for the lies the world tries to impose. My constant prayer is, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, make the decision to follow Him today, don’t delay. For those of us who do know the Lord and want to diligently follow His example, choose to be a Light in this dark world, turn your focus to the things that are eternal, choose hope and truth. Take your eyes off of the world, it has nothing for you anymore, your help comes from a promise keeping Father.
Psalm 145:21
“I will praise the LORD and may everyone on earth bless His Holy Name forever and ever.”
