Psalm 150:1-6

“Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heaven!

Praise Him for His mighty works; praise His unequaled greatness!

Praise Him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise Him with the lyre and harp!

Praise Him with the tambourine and dancing; praise Him with strings and flutes!

Praise Him with a clash of cymbals; praise Him with loud clanging cymbals.

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!

Praise the Lord!”

In The Message Translation (MSG) Verses 1-2 says,

“Hallelujah! Praise God in His holy house of worship, praise Him under the open skies! Praise Him for His acts of power, praise Him for His magnificent greatness!”

In what way do you go all out praising the Lord? Do you have any favorite music that gets you up on your feet and makes you want to move as you lift your praises to the Almighty God? It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing, praising the Lord can be done at any time. And if you read the Book of Psalms, praising the Lord is encouraged during every circumstance!

Our verses for today don’t really need any commentary. It’s simple. When you have put your faith, trust and hope in the Almighty God, the Creator of the Universe, you can’t help but praise Him. Raising our voices in song, hearing music, or playing an instrument that draws our eyes to heaven can light a heart on fire. That’s why it is important to open your mouth and praise God with your voice. The more you praise God openly and freely the more He fills you with His presence.

Try this, read Psalm 150, out loud. If you don’t feel the power of His greatness rise within you, read it out loud again. Read it again and again, as many times as you need to! Feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as you praise the God who made you. Yes, everyone has their own way of praising God. And maybe reading aloud doesn’t make you very comfortable but try it.

“Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!”

Don’t get overwhelmed if you don’t know how to sing, I think what the Psalmist is saying, is to raise your voice in whatever way suits you and give your praises to the Lord. The Message Translation (MSG) says,

“Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
    Hallelujah!”

PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE THE LORD!

The Message Translation (MSG)

Psalm 150

“Hallelujah!
Praise God in His holy house of worship,
    praise Him under the open skies;
Praise Him for His acts of power,
    praise Him for His magnificent greatness;
Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
    praise by strumming soft strings;
Praise Him with castanets and dance,
    praise Him with banjo and flute;
Praise Him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
    praise Him with fiddles and mandolin.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
    Hallelujah!”
