Psalm 57:7-11

“My heart is confident in You, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my heart. wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake up the dawn with my song. I will thank You, LORD, among all the people. I will sing Your praises among the nations. For Your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May Your glory shine over all the earth.”

How confident am I in the LORD? David’s confidence is unwavering – he was being chased down by King Saul – his life in imminent danger and he’s able to wake up singing praises to the LORD! My life is so much simpler, easy going. I am not running for my life and some mornings I find it difficult to get moving, let alone wake up singing praises.

So, what if we challenge ourselves to wake up singing praises to our God, our Savior! How would it change the way we feel in the morning? (Especially those who are not morning people!) One of my daughter’s woke up one day last week saying she was in a crotchety, impatient, zero tolerance mood. What’s the solution to a mood like that? May be taking some advice from David! Having a heart fully confident in what God can do and wake up singing praises to Him!

David didn’t have time to wake up crotchety, his life was in danger, he needed to seek the LORD as soon as his eyes opened.

Most of us won’t have the pursuit of life ending measures on our heels every morning – but we do have an enemy who wants to knock us off track, if he can start first thing in the morning to derail us, he will do what he can the rest of the day to keep us in a crotchety, impatient mood.

But what if we snap our attention back on the LORD immediately? As soon as our eyes open!

“My heart is confident in you, O God!! No wonder I can sing your praises!!

Most of us have some sort of device where we can set up a playlist of music. Why not make a playlist of music, specifically your wake up and praise God playlist – get the morning started with singing praises to the LORD!

Don’t allow the distractions of “life “disrupt a few minutes of alone time praising God. If it’s not a routine, why not make it one? Let your household know that praising God in the morning is a priority to start the day and have them join in! If the distraction is loud, make your praise louder!

“Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! (your music) I will wake up the dawn with my song I will Thank you LORD! I will sing your praises!”

We all have something to praise the LORD for, we all have something to thank Him for… Even if some of life’s circumstances right at this very moment, are difficult, emotional, aggravating, heart-wrenching. We need to pull out the praise, no matter how impossible it may seem. Lifting our eyes towards heaven in a moment of praise – will crack that crotchety mood wide open and allow God’s love and faithfulness to reach in and brighten your day.

“Your unfailing love is as high as the heavens! Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds!”

So, when we wake up in the morning – Our eyes feel crusty, our joints crack and pop, our backs need stretching, every muscle feels tight – The last thing you may feel like doing is turning music on and start praising God – But it will make all the difference in making your day just an o.k. day – to making it an AWESOME day!

Now if music isn’t your “thing” – then find something that truly delights your heart and reach for that every morning but take David’s cue- make sure it is thanking and praising the LORD!! If we start our day exalting the LORD, everything changes, we can proceed with our day filled up, giving honor to the LORD and being ready to give Him thanks and praise throughout the day.

“Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your GLORY shine over all the earth.”

Thank You Father for showing me Your unfailing love and faithfulness. I pray that each morning I rise with Your praise in my heart. Help me LORD not to wake up crotchety, but to remember the confidence I have in You and that I can give You all praise, honor, and thanks as soon as I start my day. I love You LORD!

~AMEN~
