Psalm 63:1-11
1 “O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for You.
My soul thirsts for You;
my whole body longs for You
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen You in your sanctuary
and gazed upon Your Power and Glory.
3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
how I praise You!
4 I will praise You as long as I live,
lifting up my hands to You in prayer.
5 You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
I will praise You with songs of joy.
6 I lie awake thinking of You,
meditating on You through the night.
7 Because You are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.
8 I cling to You;
Your strong right hand holds me securely.
9 But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin.
They will go down into the depths of the earth.
10 They will die by the sword
and become the food of jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God.
All who swear to tell the truth will praise Him,
while liars will be silenced.”
In the Book of Psalms, David and several other psalmists do a wonderful job reminding us that no matter what is going on in our lives we need to praise God.
Verse 3, “Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise You!”
Verse 4, “I will praise You as long as I live, lifting up my hands to You in prayer.”
Verse 5, “I will praise You with songs of joy.”
Verse 7, “I sing for joy…”
Verse 11, “All who swear to tell the truth will praise Him…”
When we long for the Lord, seek Him in everything we do and see how His mighty hand moves in our lives, we must offer up a song of praise. Now… Some of you may be thinking to yourself that you would rather poke needles in your eyes than sing. I get it, not all of us have the inclination to sing. But praising the Lord in song and praise can be as simple as looking towards Heaven and uttering the words “thank you” to the Almighty God. That may be the exact type of “song and praise” that God is longing to hear from you! And you just never know how those simple words of thanks will impact your life.
Anytime you feel like your heart will explode with gratitude but you can’t put the right words together to praise the Lord. Look to the Book of Psalms. I guarantee reading through the Psalms will give you many examples of how to include praise in your prayers to your Father in Heaven.
