Romans 9:30-33
“What does all this mean? Even though the Gentiles were not trying to follow God’s standards, they were made right with God. And it was by faith that this took place. But the people of Israel, who tried so hard to get right with God by Keeping the law, never succeeded. why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law instead of by trusting in Him. They stumbled over the great rock in their path. God warned them of this in the Scriptures when He said: vs 33, “I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced.”
I love the way the Message Version puts verse 33:
“Careful! I’ve put a huge stone on the road to Mount Zion, a stone you can’t get around. But the stone is Me! If you’re looking for Me, you’ll find Me on the way, not in the way.”
God has made a way for all of us to find Him, to trust in Him and our faith in Him includes us now as His children. It doesn’t mean we have to do everything right; we just need to trust Him.
We may try to think that roadblocks or obstacles in our path are an inconvenience. Or something that is in our way, causing us not to get what we want. It may be a desire of our heart that does not follow the will of the LORD and He is the One standing in the way – guiding you toward a different direction.
We can follow the path like the Israelites. They didn’t stop to see what was in the path. Instead, they tried desperately to climb over the obstacles, go around the roadblocks. They completely missed seeing the LORD because they were too busy trying to do everything in their own power. When something was done wrong in the sight of the LORD, instead of fixing the road back to Him, they dug the pothole even deeper. Do we want to follow that kind of path?
Let’s recognize the Rock in the path, the obstacle, the roadblock is our Savior, Jesus Christ our LORD! Instead of climbing over Him or walking around Him to seek something else for guidance and for our saving. Let’s stop at the Rock, lay before that Rock all our wrongs, all our wants, needs, desires and put all our trust on that foundation. The immovable, the impenetrable ROCK who is our LORD!
The last part of verse 33 says…
“… anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced…”
TRUST IN THE LORD, Our Rock, our Salvation!!
